There’s something magical about capturing milestones, and this session at Tunnel Springs Park with my baby sister Jesse and her husband Ryan was no exception. This maternity shoot was extra special for me because it wasn’t just another session—it was a chance to celebrate my sister’s journey into motherhood (and my future role as the coolest aunt).
The vibe we were going for was casual and playful, a reflection of their easygoing love story. Tunnel Springs Park gave us the perfect setting with its rolling hills and open fields. Sure, we didn’t have the dreamy glow of golden hour lighting (hello, midday sun!), but we made it work. A few creative angles, some well-placed shadows, and voilà—magic happened anyway!
A Surprise Hat Cameo
One of the highlights of the day came courtesy of a completely unexpected encounter. While we were shooting, a group working on photos for a hat-making company approached us. They asked if Jesse could model one of their hats for a few shots. Naturally, we said yes—it’s not every day you get a spontaneous hat campaign at your maternity shoot! (Side note: If I could remember who they were, I’d totally tag them. Mystery hat brand, you were great.)
The Sweetest Moments
Watching Jesse and Ryan together made my heart melt. Their love is so natural and sweet, and it came through in every frame. The way Ryan looks at Jesse? Goals. The way Jesse’s little ginger sparkle shone as she laughed? Double goals. These photos tell the story of two people who are about to embark on their greatest adventure yet, and I was just lucky enough to document it.
A Big Sister’s Pride
Let me just say, as a proud big sister, Jesse has always been a punk little ginger with a lot of sass and even more heart. Seeing her as a mom-to-be was such a surreal moment. She’s stepping into this new role with so much grace and love, and I know she’s going to absolutely crush it.
So here’s to Jesse and Ryan, their love, and the tiny little miracle on the way. This shoot wasn’t just about the photos—it was about celebrating a huge chapter in our family story. And I wouldn’t have wanted to capture it anywhere else but in that bright midday light, with those rolling hills, and maybe even with a surprise hat or two..
